Pay for Political Letters to the Editor here

During the “political season” – which is defined as the opening of a filing period through Election Day – election-related letters in support of or opposing a candidate(s), political party, or advocacy issue, including letters from candidates themselves, are considered paid items. Letters about local referendums are not charged as citizens are encouraged to voice their support or opposition as they see fit.

Paid political letters may be up to 400 words for $30, paid in advance. Each candidate is allowed one announcement article stating his/her running for office of up to 100 words and a mug shot photo at no charge. Longer letters or announcements are charged at the current display advertising rate.

Letters cannot be libelous or defamatory. Writers are encouraged to include a verifiable source regarding statements that may be controversial. We may publish letters in the final issue before an election, but not late attacks or charges that cannot be responded to; the editor is responsible for preventing such occurrences and will err on the side of safety when necessary.

Submit letters to news@heraldjournal.com and designate which newspaper you intend it for.
